Who Is Suitable for Scalp Therapy?
Traditional ear picking has a long history in Chinese culture and involves the careful use of specialised tools to clean and remove earwax and other debris from the ear canal. The practice continues to thrive in Chengdu, China, where trained ear pickers wander between teahouses, offering their services to anyone who wants an ear cleaning. In Singapore, these services are provided by TCM practitioners, such as Yu He Tang Wen’s TCM Clinic.
Our Scalp Therapy Process
Initial Consultation
You will first meet your designated TCM practitioner, who will perform the ear-picking procedure. The consultation will help you understand what to expect from the procedure and will also allow you to discuss any questions, doubts, or concerns you may have. The TCM practitioner will also conduct a brief examination to assess your overall health and medical history and develop a suitable treatment plan. This examination may also involve using tools to view your ear canal and identify areas that require additional TCM treatment.
Ear Picking
Once a treatment plan is in place, the TCM practitioner can perform the ear picking on your appointment date. They will use specific tools to gently remove earwax and other debris from your ear canal, performing their tasks carefully to ensure your comfort. You may be asked to lie down with your head facing upwards so that the TCM practitioner can easily clean your ears. The total procedure length may depend on the type of ear cleaning required and the amount of earwax or debris to be removed. In most cases, a single session takes 15 to 30 minutes. Traditional ear picking typically provides a calming, relaxing sensation as the practitioner gently cleans your ear, which could lull you to sleep while in their comfortable care. TCM believes that this occurs as the ear picking stimulates nearby acupuncture points (acupoints) that may also promote your well-being.
Additional Treatment
If the TCM practitioner identifies other ear-related complications during the initial consultation, they may also recommend additional treatments. These may include acupuncture at specific points on the ears and other interlinked organs, as well as herbal remedies tailored to your health. They will also share various tips to help you maintain your ear health from home, such as how to clean your ears properly without hurting yourself.
